Effluent Treatment Plant

Effluent Treatment Plant

Wastewater that is not defined as domestic wastewater is considered industrial wastewater. Sources of industrial wastewater include manufacturing, commercial businesses, mining, agricultural production and processing, and wastewater from cleanup of petroleum and chemical contaminated sites. Industrial wastewater discharged under CPCB/ NPDES permits may be subject to federal Effluent Limitations Guidelines (ELG). In addition, all industrial wastewater discharges, must provide reasonable assurance of meeting Water Quality Standards for surface water or ground water in order to receive a discharge permit.

KIW India can refer to long-term experience in the industrial wastewater treatment sector. The resulting expertise is advantageously employed for the technical and economic optimisation of every subsequent facility. The treatment process may contain mechanical, biological and chemical physical process steps.

Following processes are used:

Aerobic biological processes

Anaerobic biological processes

Physical-chemical Process

Electro-coagulation

Aerobic biological processes

Industrial wastewater treatment plants are designed to meet differing purification demands, which relate specifically to the effluent to be treated. As a rule, the concentrations of organic and inorganic substances in industrial wastewater are considerably higher than those found in the municipal sector. In the biological wastewater treatment segment, KIW India can supply both aerobic (with oxygen) and anaerobic (without oxygen) processes and thus furnish optimum solutions for individual requirements. It is often the case that both processes are combined in order to achieve the highest possible purity levels in the treated wastewater.

KIW INDIA also has technologies, which allow the cleaning of wastewater containing compounds that are difficult to degrade. Among others, the following processes are employed:

  • Activated Sludge Process
  • Submerged Aerated Fixed Films
  • Moving Bed Bioreactor
  • Sequencing Batch Reactor

Anaerobic biological processes

Anaerobic wastewater treatment is a process whereby bacteria digests biosolids in the absence of oxygen. One major feature of anaerobic digestion is the production of biogas, which can be used in generators for electricity production or in boilers for heating purposes. This, plus the fact that aerobic wastewater treatment requires a method for the introduction of oxygen into the process, makes anaerobic wastewater treatment generally more cost effective.

KIW India offers wide range of anaerobic technologies;

  • Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) digester:
  • Up-flow or down-flow anaerobic filters
  • Membrane Bioreactor

Physical Chemical Treatment

Physical Chemical Wastewater treatment covers the range of treatment processes that remove a variety of impurities from water or wastewater. Chemical Physical treatment generally includes the dosing of suitable chemicals to precipitate impurities. This precipitate containing the impurity is then generally removed by sedimentation, flotation and filtration. If undertaken correctly, this process will remove specific impurities and produce treated water suitable for either discharge or next process step depending on overall process. Sludge can then generally be treated and dewatered for subsequent disposal.
